Barrier Games Class Set with Book
Description / Barrier Games Class Set with Book
The Barrier Game Class Set requires players to give and receive instructions whilst being separated by some kind of barrier, similarly to Battleships. These games help developing language skills by providing an opportunity for students to both speak and listen. This comes with a book developed by Dr Paul Swan with games and activities to be played.
Practise active listening
Speakers learn to give explicit information to listeners (e.g. it’s not sufficient to say “Put it there”), and listeners learn to monitor information and use questions to clarify or gain further information. These are important skills for independent learning.
Encourage strong communication
This game encourages children to develop their negotiating skills and reinforces the use of descriptive language (e.g. children begin to use a variety of nouns, attributes, or location words).
This game is ideal for classroom use by encouraging both mathematical and literary skills. The game requires clear communication which widens students' understanding of vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. The mystery of the game forces students to use probability and logic to determine the other player's answer. Some of the games that can be played with the barrier include simple sequencing, matching pairs, assembly, construction, location, grids, route finding, and spotting differences.
