Learn about long vowels and how they’re different to short vowels.

These dominoes feature some of the most common long vowels (combinations of two or more vowels or vowel sounds) that children will encounter, such as oo, ai, ee and more.

Each domino piece features a long vowel written in clear letters on the pink side, and an image with a blanked out word on the white side. The white side must be matched with the long vowel that completes the blank.

Play and learn

• Place dominoes face down
• Each player takes 7 dominoes
• One player places a starting domino
• Each player takes turns matching the end of a domino to form a chain. For example, the image of the cow must be matched with the long vowel ‘ow’
• If a player can't place a domino, then they must pick up a spare from the pile
• The player to play all their dominoes first wins
