MAB Plastic Cube
Description / MAB Plastic Cube
The MAB cube completes a system of manipulatives used to teach place value to young children. The work on the basis that ten singular units make one ‘long’, ten longs make one ‘flat’, and ten flats make the cube. Equally useful on its own for visualising geometry principles.
Made from smooth plastic
The cube has helpful indents at regular intervals to make clear that it’s made up of faces comprising 100 equal parts. It cannot be dismantled. Made from bright orange plastic.
Engaging in tricky topics
A system like MAB is perfect for engaging students in topics they may find challenging. Using a practical resource that children can pick up and manipulate alongside other pieces helps them to recognise the relative values.
One cube can be used as a visual example for the class, especially if they’re working with flats, longs, and units. Used on its own, it could be applied as a handy explanation of 3D structures and geometry.
