MAB Wooden Cube
Description / MAB Wooden Cube
A MAB cube is the final piece of the cumulative MAB system, whereby: ten single units form one ‘long’, ten longs form one ‘flat’, and ten flats form the cube. Using these manipulatives, it’s possible to clearly explain the principles behind place value.
Smooth wooden manipulative
Made from a smooth, tactile wood, the cube is ideal for safe use by young children. It has helpful indents at regular intervals to make clear that it’s made up of faces comprising 100 equal parts. The cube is fused and therefore cannot be dismantled.
Engaging in tricky topics
A system like MAB is perfect for engaging students in topics they may find challenging. A practical resource that children can pick up and manipulate alongside other pieces helps them to make connections between the ideas being taught.
One cube can be used as a visual example for the class, especially if they’re working with flats, longs, and units. Used on its own, it could be applied as a handy explanation of 3D structures and geometry.
