MAB ‘Longs’ form a component of the base ten system, whereby ten single units form one long, and ten longs form one ‘flat’. With use alongside the units, flats, and cube, it’s possible to explain place value in a clear and accessible format. However, longs could also be applied to teach addition, subtraction, counting, and basic number sense using multiples of ten.

Smooth wooden blocks

Made from a smooth, tactile wood, the longs are ideal for safe use by young children. Each have indents at regular intervals to make clear that they’re made up of ten equal parts. The longs are fused and therefore cannot be dismantled. All 200 supplied are uniform in size, shape, and colour.
