MAB Wooden Class Set
Description / MAB Wooden Class Set
This extensive class set comprises over 1000 wooden MAB manipulatives and complementary resources. MAB is a familiar base ten system, the structure of which lends itself primarily to teaching place value, but its applications are far reaching. Ten singular ‘units’ make up one ‘long’. Ten longs make up one ‘flat’. And ten flats form a ten-by-ten cube.
In this set, you’ll find all of the base ten components, as well as a place value mat – ideal for super clear visual demos, a transparent cube, and activity guide.
Base Ten book included
Teaching base ten is made simpler with the help of the Base Ten book, written by Dr Paul Swan. It’ll enable you to convey place value, arithmetic, fractions, percentages, money maths, and so much more, with a variety of engaging activities. Each page contains clear, easy-to-follow instructions, diagrams, and reference to the activity’s relevance to the Australian curriculum.
Transparent cube
In addition to the wooden cubes, a transparent cube is provided. This provides the option to demonstrate even more clearly how the flats, longs and units make up one cube. Stack ten flats inside the transparent cube for example.
Compact storage
All components fit neatly into the Gratnells jumbo tray provided. It makes packing away after a lesson a super simple task and enables you to store all your MAB manipulatives together in the classroom.
The base ten system can be applied to teach a wide array of topics, from foundational counting and number sense, through to tricky ideas like fractions and division. Students will benefit from using the tactile wooden pieces to problem-solve their way to better understanding. Easily enough resources to allow children to work individually or in small groups. Also available as a plastic set.
