How do you introduce the concept of money to your students in a safe, controlled environment? Why, with facsimiles of the real thing, of course! With our play money sets and related supplies, your students will learn to appreciate Australian currency, its value (both financial and intrinsic) and its practical applications.

We have complete kits that allow you to simulate financial scenarios in a typical store. If you don’t need a whole kit, we also have play money (including coins and notes) and counters that you can use in various activities.

Activity Ideas:

  • Here’s your change. This game is designed to simulate real-life scenarios where students are buying products from a store. One student can serve as the ‘shopkeeper’, while the rest can serve as ‘customers’. The shopkeeper must give the customers the correct amount of change every time, or point out if the money given isn’t enough to cover the value of the products ‘purchased’. If the ‘customer’ gave the exact amount, the change would be zero, of course!
  • Classify those coins. In this game, students sort coins according to specific categories. For example, you can ask them to sort coins according to whether they’re showing odd or even numbers.
  • Australian money bags game. Luckily, we already have this game completely set up for you! All you have to do is follow (or slightly tweak) the game rules according to the manual and depending on your classroom needs, and you’re set.
