True to their name, fraction blocks are cubes designed to illustrate the concept of fractions. They can be simple cubes with fractional numbers or decimals written on them, or are shaped like slices that make up a pie.

Fractions can be one of the most difficult maths concepts to master for students, especially when they’re used in an arithmetic context. Fraction blocks address this challenge by giving a visual representation of how numerators and denominators change when they’re added, subtracted, multiplied or divided together.
Some fraction blocks are in the form of simple cubes and dice, whilst others come in funkier shapes like pizzas. (Yes, really.) Regardless of the shape of the fraction block you choose, it must be able to demonstrate how fractions work in the contexts students are most likely to encounter (e.g. dividing a pie equally).
Activity Ideas:
- Piece that pie together. Take any of our Fraction Circles, and show how different pie slices make up a whole.
- Fraction fortress. Using our specially designed Fraction Fortress blocks, let your students unleash their creativity and have fun building all sorts of structures.
- Flash those fractions. Our Fraction Flashcards are versatile tools for teaching various concepts related to fractions. You can flash a card that shows a decimal number and ask your students to identify the equivalent fraction, and vice versa. For older students, you can progress towards percentages as well.
