Mathcubes are cubes that are specially designed to be linked together. Think of them as 3D jigsaw puzzles complete with interjambs (the protruding end) and blanks (the indented space).

Unlike jigsaw puzzles, however, mathcubes are far more versatile. You can link two mathcubes of the same or different colour together, as long as their respective interjambs and blanks fit together. This makes them perfect for illustrating maths concepts such as fractions, addition, multiplication and the like.

Activity Ideas:

  • Multiplication mathcubes. Using mathcubes for multiplication, students can practise doing complex sums.
  • Mathcube molds. In this activity, students can use mathcubes to construct any shape they want. If they want to create more complicated shapes like pyramids, feel free to show them how to make these first.
  • Building with beads. This one uses our Bead Cubes and Lace set. The square-shaped beads make for great building materials by themselves. And paired with the lace, they can be used to demonstrate positive and negative numbers as well.
