Young learners love games that involve revealing a hidden object. Our Turn & Learn boards are designed to tap into that innate desire whilst also allowing students to see what they’ve learned about numbers in action.

The boards can be modified according to the lesson being taught at the moment. Alternatively, you could also refer to Dr. Paul Swan’s Number Boards Book for activity ideas. 

Activity Ideas:

  • Counting. For lower maths levels, number boards can be valuable tools. You can first count the numbers forwards and backwards with all of the numbers facing up, then gradually amp up the difficulty by hiding some of the numbers and letting the students guess what those hidden numbers are.
  • Pattern recognition. The Laminated Hundreds Boards can be used to demonstrate patterns in various arithmetic operations. For example, if ‘6 + 16’ equals ‘22’, ‘6 + 26’ equals ‘32’, and ‘32’ comes right under ‘22’ on the number board, what would be the sum of ‘6 + 36’?
  • Bingo. Number boards are perfect for playing school-friendly versions of bingo. Just make sure the game has a maths twist!
