Whiteboards are fun surfaces for students to write on. If they’re the magnetic sort (and we have those in spades), students can stick all sorts of magnetic objects on them to illustrate various maths concepts. Of course, there’s always the good old-fashioned marker for the things that can’t be easily expressed via magnets.

Speaking of markers, the ones we have come in colours that will surely stimulate your students’ senses. We even have magnetic erasers to complement everything! Student whiteboards may be simple, but there’s certainly a ton you can do with them.

Activity Ideas:

  • Pictionary. Have a student draw a shape on the whiteboard one line at a time. The rest of the class should try to guess what the student is drawing, and the only clues the student can give are nonverbal ones.
  • Draw that shape. Here, each student should have their own whiteboard. Ask them to draw any shape, like a ‘triangle’, ‘square’, etc. Students in the higher levels can be asked to do more challenging tasks, like ‘Draw two isosceles triangles with their shortest sides adjacent to each other’.
  • Plot the graph. With a gridded whiteboard, students can practise plotting line graphs and discussing them in class.
