This school-friendly metric scale allows students to weigh objects up to 5kg, as well as easily convert to and from kilograms and grams.

The face highlights the kilo numbers in red, whilst their equivalents in grams are indicated in even multiples of 100. It’s useful for teaching concepts such as ‘2kg and 500g is the same as 2.5kg’. Students learn that, as they put more and heavier objects in the tray above, the red pointer moves clockwise to indicate that the weight has increased.

Class activities

Students can use the metric scale to measure the weights of different objects. They can then have discussions about the factors that affect weight, like the quantity or material of the objects.
