My First Sight Words
Description / My First Sight Words
There’s certainly more to sight words than meets the eye. They’re the ones children can identify even without sounding them out.
Magnetic and Large
The pieces feature large fonts, ideal for facilitating classroom discussion. Children can also be encouraged to handle the individual pieces to give them a better ‘feel’ for the appearance and spelling of each word.
The sight workds include articles, pronouns, verbs and prepositions. These magnetic pieces can be used with magnetic surfaces such as our as our VersaBoard which can be purchased separately. Using this set with a VersaBoard also means that children can make notes on the write and wipe surface.
Play Learning Ideas
- Stick the sight words on the whiteboard, and write notes and explanations on what the sight word means, how it’s used, etc.
- Create columns on the whiteboard, with headers corresponding to the parts of speech the sight words use (e.g. ‘Articles’, ‘Pronouns’ and so on). Then, ask the students to stick the sight word under the header of the part of speech they belong to.
- Write cloze problems on the board, where the blank spaces can only be filled out with the correct sight word. For example, in the sentence ‘He __ he doesn’t feel good.’, the blank should be filled out with the word ‘said’.
