One of the world’s most recognisable scientific models, Newton’s Cradle is a staple of every physics classroom. It serves as a visual representation of the conservation of momentum and the conservation of energy through elastic collision.
Durable classroom resource
This sturdy model sits on a wooden base. Five nickel-plated stainless-steel balls are suspended on a tough nylon monofilament from the supporting steel frame.
By lifting and releasing the end sphere, it strikes those that are stationary, transmitting a force through them and pushing the last sphere upwards. Various combinations of spheres can be experimented with to see how this changes the outcome.
