Tennis Balls - Pack of 4
Description / Tennis Balls - Pack of 4
Whether your students love tennis or not, they’ll surely appreciate the creative use of these tennis balls in the classroom.
Through these tennis balls, students can study the mechanics of flight, drag, inertia and balance.
Science with tennis balls
- Drop a basketball and tennis ball from the same height (e.g. from the edge of a window). Assuming they’re dropped at the same time, the basketball should hit the ground first, bounce into the tennis ball, and send the tennis ball flying into the air. This illustrates the transfer of kinetic energy between objects
- In this activity, students will test the bounce height of tennis balls exposed to different temperatures. One ball will be bounced as is (i.e. at room temperature), another will be bounced after being left in a freezer overnight, and yet another will be bounced after being wrapped in a heating pad for a few hours. Students will record the performance of the balls in terms of how high they bounced, the angle of their bounce, etc. This experiment should demonstrate how surrounding temperatures affect matter
